Aid Brett Wilcox in His Healing Process

Hi, I am Tamara DeVries, sister of Brett Wilcox. I am starting this GoFundMe for Brett as he has had a medical story that is now at a point where it is affecting his financial situation and making it harder for him to make ends meet.

Brett's Story

When Brett was 17, he was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation. This is a condition on his brain stem. This condition stops the method of spinal fluid to flow correctly. Brett had his first surgery at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Things were better for a while, and Brett was able to move forward as a young man into his daily living. As time went on, Brett started to suffer from severe headaches, back pain, exhaustion, and lack of feeling in his hands and sometimes legs. Brett needed another surgery in 2023 to make more room for his spinal fluid to flow and clean things up. Brett underwent surgery at the University of Iowa. Since that surgery, recovery for Brett has been challenging. Brett has suffered from more severe headaches, loss of feeling in hands and now arms, and he has started to lose more feeling in his legs.

Due to the intensity of the pain, Brett has missed long periods of work and has suffered challenges financially.

It is now March 2025, and Brett is now undergoing his 3rd surgery for this condition. Brett is now being seen at Mayo Hospital and Clinics. This surgery is more invasive and is looking to require more healing. Brett has been off work due to his deteriorating condition and will continue to be off work until he is cleared for daily living.

Brett's medical condition has caused him stressors for his home, needed expenses, and medical bills.
