Brent Roemmich is known by all to always have a smile on his face, help anyone who asks, and to have a clever & witty sense of humor. He's a loving and devoted father to his son Jaxon. In July, Brent started noticing that he was losing strength in his right hand. He chalked it up to stress and continued on with life. Six weeks ago, Brent started struggling with walking. He started having more and more difficulty getting around. It got so bad that he was forced to quit his job as a school special education para.
Brent went to a chiropractor thinking he had a pinched nerve, but eventually went into a medical clinic. On Thursday, September 26th, Brent had an MRI done of his head. He was told that he needed to go to the emergency room immediately because the doctor believed he was having strokes. Once in the hospital, they tried to figure out what was going on. He had a CT, a chest x-ray, an EKG, and a second MRI with contrast. After consulting with a neurologist, he decided that the lesions on Brent’s brain were most likely not from strokes. They performed a lumbar puncture which in a few days should confirm this.
Brent is currently on an aggressive treatment of steroids. He will have to have extensive physical and occupational therapy to gain back his strength in his right arm and gain his mobility in his legs again. He has been without work since the beginning of September, and he will not be able to work until they get this under control. The medical bills will soon start coming in. If you can support him, Jaxon, and his partner Von in any way, I know they would appreciate it greatly. Brent is a fighter, and he will learn to live with this new normal.

**Brent was sent to Bryan West in Lincoln after his conditions worsened. After another 3 hour MRI and another Spinal tap, are treating him for a brain and spine infection. We are not sure what the next steps are as of yet. They are hoping Brent will qualify for in-patient therapy which he would do at Madonna or continue it in the third floor of Bryan West. All of his tests have been sent to the Mayo Clinic but it may take a couple of weeks for answers.**

Brent was transported to Omaha to UNMC. He has regressed significantly. He cannot walk and needs help with most of his daily needs. Last night he lost his speech. He became very agitated when he couldn’t communicate his pain or needs. Today he was doing better, but he struggles putting together his thoughts. He will have a spinal tap tomorrow to test for a fungal infection. If that comes back negative, he will have a brain biopsy late this week. They will be looking for lymphoma.
