Aurora was diagnosed (in the womb) with a congenital heart condition called transposition of the great arteries on March 6th, 2025. This is a serious condition where the two main arteries leaving the heart — the aorta and the pulmonary artery — are switched in position. Normally, the heart’s right side pumps blood to the lungs to pick up oxygen, and the left side sends oxygen-rich blood to the body. In TGA, this process is reversed, so oxygen-poor blood circulates through the body, and oxygen-rich blood cycles back to the lungs. This can result in inadequate oxygen delivery to the tissues and vital organs, which is life-threatening if not corrected.

Aurora required open-heart surgery at exactly a week old; this delicate procedure aimed to correct the positioning of her arteries, allowing her heart to function normally and ensuring she has a healthy, oxygen-rich blood flow. Aurora’s family is deeply devoted to her, their love and support are vital for Aurora’s well-being and recovery; she has been discharged with strict instructions + guidelines to follow as well as needing to stay nearby the hospital in case of arising complications and/or frequent cardiologist follow up appointments to ensure she’s in good health.
