Keeping Care of Kira & Kora
Donation protected
It has been a challenging month, but Kira is doing much better from her liver and kidney infection. So much so, that the vet is surpised. Although she is finished with the three weeks of antibiotics, she has to remain on Denosyl, which is quite expensive. Kora had bloodwork done and is scheduled to be spayed on Tues., Sept. 10.
I had posted about re-homing Kira and Kora due to being overwhelmed by other family obligations, the new school year, returning to work, and the expenses of two additional large dogs. I'm happy they are better and eating well. Since Miami Dade Animal Services do not spay dogs over 50lbs, Kora's spay will be more expensive than previously thought since she has to have surgery with a private veterinarian instead of the county. It is vital that people spay their dogs when they are young and less than 50lbs. since the recuperation and cost is less.
We continue to care for Kira and Kora. We want to keep them together. I know it won't be easy to find them another home, so we will continue to try our best. We appreciate the support everyone has given us to help Kira and Kora! We still need help to fund Kora's spay and Kira's liver meds. Thank you all again!
A not so happy update on Kira. She was lethargic, not eating or drinking, and started coughing. We had to go rush to the vet this morning. They found she had a fever. They did an x-ray on her chest and abdomen. Her lungs show some spots. Dr. Gomara and Dr. Perez said it's probably lung cancer. Still, they gave her IV fluids, anti-inflammatory medication, and added another antibiotic. I guess it's just a matter of time; but we are going to give her a chance to see if she can recover, at least to get some more TLC before she goes.
The vet bills are going to be more for Kira. We appreciate all of the donors who helped with today's visit to the vet.
On Friday, August 2, we awoke to a knock from two lost dogs searching for water, food, shade, and love. We reported them on several sites, including the Neighbors app where we found other posts about the same two dogs, a German Shepard and a Rottweiler. On Saturday, a vet who makes housecalls came and found they were chipped. Unfortunately, the owner did not respond to the chip company. On Monday, August 5, we called the Miami-Dade Animal Services, and we learned that these two dogs had not been registered, vaccinated, or spayed. We also learned their names, Aurora (German Shepard) and Akira (Rottweiler). They gave us the owner's phone number, and to our shock and horror, the owner had just returned from vacation and did not realize they were missing! Horrified, I contacted the Miami-Dade Animal Services to report that he owner confessed that he neither had time nor interest in these two sweet dogs. They said I either had to wait 90 days for the owner to not respond or to have the owner write a letter to confirm his surrender of the dogs. Without either two, we would not be able to get them veterinarian care. Thankfully, he agreed to surrender both dogs to us, which will enable us to give them the veterinarian care they need.
On Tues., Aug. 6, we gained ownership of the two adandoned and surrendered dogs and renamed Aurora - Kora and Akira- Kira. They are now vaccinated and registered!
On Wed., Aug. 7, Kira and Kora received a must needed spa bath and hygiene day at Scenthound of Kendall. The groomers were impressed with their sweet and calm demeanor.
On Thurs., we took the Special K Sisters to Gomara Animal Clinic where we learned that Kora was in heat and Kira had both liver and kidney issues. The vet feared the worst for Kira. We left downhearted.
However, on Fri., Aug. 9, we received encouraging news that Kira had a liver infection that can be treated with antibiotics! He also prescribed a probiotic to help with her digestion. Still, she needs to be on a vegetarian diet and to stay well hydrated. Kora will be checked again after her heat cycle ends to schedule her spay surgery.
We are so grateful to all of the donors who have generously given to Kira & Kora's Go Fund Me Campaign
THANK YOU!!!
Still, some friends suggested to also make an Amazon wish list since they need lots of TLC, support, and supplies.
We are grateful for your support to help us with the unexpected adoption of two special dogs who came to us to be rescued.
God is good!!
