My name is Ryan Kuizenga, I am a stay-at-home-mom to our two children, my husband works full time to pay our bills. This past weekend we took a trip to Michigan for his dad’s wedding and stayed with his family for a few days.

While we were gone, on Saturday August 2nd tragedy struck back home, in Illinois. My mom, Angel Kitchens suffered some serious burns, and was taken by life flight to the burn center in Louisville, Kentucky. We will be going to be with her, and help her because her hands are burnt significantly where she cannot use them. Although her right hand has shown much improvement recently. She told me that she had on a beach towel that buttons shut. She always burns coffee grounds using rubbing alcohol as the accelerant, the smoke helps keep the bugs outside away. The coffee grounds were only smoldering, so she decided to pour the rubbing alcohol into it. When she did that, the entire bottle exploded in her hand and caught that beach towel on fire. The towel was buttoned, she couldn’t get it off of her. Her hands are burnt the worst from trying to pull the towel off. Her whole body is burnt from the towel because it was stuck to her. The only place that was not affected is from about her knees down. She said her kitchen caught fire but she was able to throw enough water on it while she was waiting for help to arrive.

My goal is to help her with her house payment, and help pay any other bills while she is recovering. This is a burn that is covering most of her body, and as a result, she is barely able to walk. After we reach our goal for that, I plan to use any extra funds for gas to travel up and help take care of her, and to cover hotel stays since she is 3 hours away.

Our church has blessed us and helped us with a hotel for a few days so I can be with her. But, her stay in the burn center is looking like it’s going to be a long one. I know the power of prayer, and that Jesus hears us so please send all of the prayers for her as she is fighting through this devastating time.
