Hello everyone. This is about my puppy dog Amelie; my best friend, constant shadow, and the loving little soul who has carried me through some of the hardest chapters of my life. I rescued her from a shelter in December 2019, but in oh so many ways, she rescued me right back. Her happy smiles and wiggly-waggly tail have been my daily reminder that joy can be so simple.

At the end of October, Amelie suffered what’s commonly known as a spinal stroke. One moment she was running and playing like she always does and then within in 5 minutes, she couldn’t use her back right leg, much less stand on her own. Watching her collapse and seeing the confusion in her eyes is something I’ll never forget. It broke my heart to see the dog who once ran miles beside me suddenly be unable to walk or even lift herself off the floor.

Amelie has never once given up. With the help of emergency care and specialists, she’s gone from being completely immobilized to hobbling around on her own. Every tiny step she takes feels like a miracle… but her journey is far from over.

I’ve spent about $2,500 so far on emergency vet visits and specialist evaluations. We’ve finally been cleared to begin physical therapy, the part that will truly determine how much mobility she gets back, but unfortunately, it’s expected to cost approximately another $1,000–$1,500. I’ve reached the limit of what I can afford, and it kills me to think that money could be the thing standing between her and a full recovery.

As all of you know, I would do anything for her. She deserves every chance to keep improving, to feel good again, to get back to chasing toys and greeting people with her whole-body tail wag.
