Albert’s health and healing journey. We are now at the 6 month mark of his journey and are still struggling with some health issues that need to be addressed. Most of his wounds have neared the healing stage but the sacral (bedsore) wound is now requiring the help of a plastic surgeon to aid in healing, it simply isn’t closing on its own. We are faced with a minimum of about 8 more weeks of healing and after this back to wound care and physical and occupational therapy as was already started previously, se we still have a very long road ahead. These bedsores are very dangerous, painful and stubborn. The saddest part about the bedsores is that no matter how much he moves or repositions, it is difficult not to lay flat on that same area repeatedly. And having sitting restrictions of one hour per day only, doesn’t help but hinders. This is why he is still dealing with this issue. when he is finally discharged he will need special attention at home, which his insurance has made clear, it will lit cover his needs in South Texas. He is not eligible for equipment, nor home health care. I will be and have been, the only other care he has had or will have indefinitely.

After all is said and done, we will also need transport back home, that too is not covered by insurance but the best way for him to get home safely is by ambulance so this bill too must be paid out of pocket.

We realize we have already had such a tremendous outpouring of love and support that we really think twice to even dream of asking for help, but we are now caught in the most difficult situation we have ever faced, the longest road we’ve ever walked together.
