My name is Adriaan, and I never imagined I’d be writing something like this. I’m an artist, craftsman, and avid cyclist who thrives on creativity and hands-on work. I’ve always believed in the power of vulnerability, beauty, and resilience in my craft, but right now, I find myself facing a challenge that’s testing me in ways I never expected. After a series of tests for an unexplained tumor, I’ve been diagnosed with a potential case of testicular cancer. This type of cancer is most common in men between the ages of 15 and 35, and though it has a 95% survival rate when caught early, the road ahead is full of uncertainty.

My doctors at Mount Sinai had advised an urgent surgery so last week they opted to remove the affected teste, to be followed by further tests and posaible treatments. I’m optimistic about the outcome, but the reality of being underinsured and unable to work full-time during my treatment and recovery is a significant concern. As an artist and craftsman, I rely heavily on being hands-on in my work, but I’ll need to step back during this time, and that means losing my primary income.

At the moment, I’m paying for everything out-of-pocket, and although I’m working part-time to ease the financial burden, it’s clear that I need help.
