Hello, my name is Angela Schwegel. I am the mother of Adam Schwegel Jr. Adam has been very sick for quite some time now. It started last September when he had severe pain in his abdomen and come to find out his spleen was doubled in size, that first hospital say he was in for almost 3 weeks. He still continued to work, though we kept having these bouts of pain that for a time there we couldn’t figure out what was going on. In April of this year, it got extremely bad. He was home and he could not walk. We called the ambulance and come to find out his fever was 106.7! The infection wishes ravaging through his body for the longest time. He was put in the hospital on April 12 in intensive care with an infection in his spleen and the doctor was confident that she could take his spleen out laparoscopically and he would be better. However, that wasn’t the case as we waited for hours upon hours for Adam to come out of surgery we saw people rushing to bring blood to his OR and we weren’t getting any answers but apparently when she tried to take his spleen out laparoscopically it burst and it had over 100 abscesses on it, which infected his whole abdomen among other places. He had several blood transfusions during the surgery. She had to open up his whole stomach with an incision approximately 12” long. He lost his blood pressure and though she brought him back, he came out in extremely critical condition on a ventilator. He stayed in ICU for several more weeks and then transitioned down and then eventually went home. He wasn’t home very long before the pain came back and we were baffled as to why this would happen if his spleen was removed only to find out that when his stomach was cleaned out, there was some infection left in there and it went to his liver and there was a 7 1/2 inch abscess on his liver so he had to go back in and have a drain put in on the right side as well as the two that were already on his left side. He came home again and the drain stopped working so he went back in the hospital again. He was admitted several times for extreme pain due to nerve damage to his abdominal wall from the surgery in his abdomen and since April 17 that dreaded day, he has been hospitalized 14 times and transferred to Cooper multiple times just coming home again yesterday. He now has pancreatitis as well as diastasis and he needs a very risky major surgery that he will be having in December or January, they have to wait until he’s strong enough to have the surgery done. This scares me so much because of what he went through during his last surgery, we never in our wildest dreams imagined he would come out on a ventilator. I did not leave his side 24/7, and I won’t again during this next surgery! We have done a couple fundraisers for Adam however, he has not received a paycheck since September because his funds ran out, he has a very high co-pay for every time he’s admitted to the hospital as well as having to pay $1700 a month since April for his health insurance. This is not counting anything but his co-pays and health insurance. Adam has three little daughters, three years old, two years old, and 10 months old and it’s been extremely hard for him to be away from them for so long, especially the baby since she was only three months old when this started. We greatly appreciate all the prayers that Adam has been getting and believe me when I say no donation is too small and it’s OK if you cannot donate just keep the prayers coming for Adam and his family! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
