Aid Abraham's Family During His Health Crisis

Spende geschützt
In mid March, our cousin Abraham, and his family all got sick with bronchitis. While the whole family got better, Abraham ended up losing 32 lbs from the start of being sick in mid March until mid April. On the 12th of April, my cousin (Abe’s wife) decided to take him to urgent care as he wasn’t getting any better. At urgent care, he was given antibiotics & a steroid shot in hopes that he will finally get better.

But he didn’t. From the 12th - 17th of April, his symptoms got worse and he lost an additional 18 lbs on top of having 0 appetite, and being super fatigued. At this point, Abe couldn’t get out of bed, and wasn’t coherent, and his wife knew that it was time for him to go to the Emergency room. At the ER, Abe got many labs drawn & in just a quick hour, his life changed.

His labs showed that he had a blood sugar of 600+ and that he was in DKA. Diabetic Keteoacidosis. DKA means that his pancreas was no longer providing his body with any insulin and that he was near a diabetic coma, but just got to the hospital right in time. It was at this time that the doctors diagnosed him with Type 1 diabetes and immediately went into the medical ICU.

Type 1 Diabetes is different from Type 2. Type 1 diabetes is a genetic autoimmune disease and is in no fault to a persons lifestyle or diet. The Dr’s believe, Abe has had it for some time now, and has lived with it, but that the upper respiratory infection and steroid shot triggered his body to go into distress.

Though we are in high hopes of everything being good, there are many new things that they will have to learn. As Abe & his family learn to navigate through this new routine and process, we want to take the financial strain for the next month or so to allow Abe to learn his new normal without the stress of going back into DKA, and allowing himself to get back on his two feet before working again…

During this time, this will leave their family of 4 to a single income. We are asking for any small help to allow Abe to take a little bit of time off of work, to rest, get better and go to doctor’s visits + learning his new routine with insulin. This will be a temporary financial strain, until Abraham gets out of the hospital and gets into his new normal. In addition to this, my cousin Tracy is currently serving in the Air Force which means their family is stationed far away from their families, leaving them on their own with no near by help.

Any and all help will truly be appreciated. We thank everyone from the bottoms of our hearts for all the continued prayers and kind words!
