I am a 39 year old single mother of a 10 year old boy. I was just diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ with intermediate to high nuclear grade. After meeting with my surgeon, I was told that I will require a mastectomy. I opted for reconstruction because I want to keep as much of me as possible. I will be undergoing a right nipple sparing mastectomy with sentinel lymph node removal. The recovery time will be 4-6 weeks. (There is also the possibility of a double mastectomy pending genetic testing.) I am asking for donations to help support me financially with medical expenses and lost wages. I work part time as an ICU nurse and will miss several shifts during the recovery period. I’m very lucky to have an incredible support system. My family is amazing and will be there every step of the way. My son has refused to allow me to go to any appointment without him which melts my heart.
