Help Provide a Safe Bed & Mattress for an Amazing Woman

I am a home care nurse, and I have the privilege of caring for an extraordinary woman who has faced more challenges than most of us can imagine. She is a middle-aged woman living with multiple serious and critical health conditions. Despite everything, she continues to fight with grace, strength, and a spirit that inspires everyone who meets her.

She lives with her loving sister, her sister’s husband, and their three boys—her biggest cheerleaders. Her sister has been her fierce advocate, working tirelessly for years to get her the medical equipment she so desperately needs. But we are still waiting. And waiting.

Right now, she is in urgent need of a new hospital bed and a low air loss pressure mattress—basic necessities for her health and safety. Her current hospital bed is broken; one of the side rails no longer works, forcing them to push the bed against the wall for safety. This not only limits her ability to move or even see her TV, but it also puts her at serious risk of falling.

Her low air loss mattress, which is crucial in preventing painful and dangerous skin breakdown, is also failing. It has to run 24/7 because it’s broken, sometimes taking over an hour just to get it to work. This has sent their electric bill soaring, adding to the already overwhelming financial burden this family carries.

But their hardships don’t stop there. In the last six months alone, this family has endured a series of financial blows, including:
    •    Replacing their central air unit ($11,000) – essential for her health and breathing.
    •    Fixing their pellet stove – their primary source of heat, which just broke last week.
    •    Replacing their washer, dryer, and dishwasher – all of which failed at the worst possible time.
    •    Unforeseen medical emergencies and surgeries for three different family members.

As well as replacing the generator which broke during a power outage just this month, which is no fault of the family at all. A generator is crucial because when they lose power, all of her medical equipment will be immediately shut down. It is a life and death situation.

And through it all, they have continued to pour their own money—thousands of dollars—into medical supplies that insurance refuses to cover.

This is a family that doesn’t ask for help. They are kind, selfless, and full of love. Every nurse who has worked in this home can say the same thing: we stay because they are simply incredible people.

Now, they need us.

A new hospital bed and low air loss pressure mattress would mean everything to this woman’s health, comfort, and dignity. It would protect her from serious skin issues, aspiration risks, and falls. It would give her the simple ability to move and look around her own space—things so many of us take for granted.

If you can contribute anything—no matter how small—you will be helping to lift a burden that this family has carried for far too long. Every dollar will go directly toward providing the bed and mattress she desperately needs.

Please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser with others who may be able to help. Together, we can give this incredible woman the care and comfort she deserves.

From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of this wonderful family, thank you.
