CANADIAN AFFILIATES! Want to help Canadian athletes pay for their trip to Carson?
Our athletes in Canada West and Canada East rank among the top in the world. Unfortunately, travel to Carson from YYZ is almost as expensive as traveling from Europe.
This is a huge disadvantage. An extra hotel night to acclimate to the... heat; extra meals; even an earlier flight adds to the costs that some athletes can't cover.
Let's show the world Canadian athletes come from the STRONGEST nation on earth! On July 1, do the "Team Canada" WOD in support of all Canadian athletes competing in the CrossFit Games. Donate $100 from your box to our gofundme account (link here.)
How will athletes get the money? Joanne LeGal of Lackner McLennan Insurance (Affiliate Guard Canada) has graciously volunteered to manage collection and dispersement via the popular GoFundMe web-site. She insures many of us; we trust her to keep our box safe. Donations will be evenly split between Canadian athletes who have qualified for The 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games in this way: 1 share per Individual athlete (8 total)
1 share per Team (4 total.)

Do we have to ask our members for money? No. The low donation ($100) is simply an opportunity for you to support Canadian athletes. Use the occasion to host a summer BBQ for your members, or just use the branding potential of the Games to create excitement around your gym.
What if one athlete needs the money more than others? An even split is the only fair split. If an athlete feels she/he shouldn't benefit, or doesn't need the help, they can decline their share and the funds will be divided into 11 equal parts. They can't simply donate their share to someone else.
Does Joanne (or Chris) make anything from this? No. Gofundme takes a 5% share, plus 2.9% +.30 per donation for PayPal. At this time, there's simply no other easy way to do this. It's simply a 'thank you' to our top athletes for the inspiration they provide.
Why do teams have one share? Teams have more resources to draw from than individuals. They can share lodging and food costs. If this works out, we can re-evaluate in the future.
Why should I donate if no one from my box qualified? Canadian athletes qualified. Next year it may be one of yours. Let's make sure the world knows we have twelve spots for good reason.
What's the catch? Win, dammit! Turn up in Carson well-fed, rested and confident; there's a whole nation at your back!
