Each summer Alameda High chooses a summer read to engage our entire community. Participating in this all school reading event brings us together and helps students and teachers strengthen our bond as a community. The process of reading and discussing a book as a whole school builds shared understanding, reference points, and memories. This year’s selection, My Monticello by Jocelyn Nicole Johnson will certainly open up compelling conversations when we return to school in the fall.
We have the opportunity to invite the author, Jocelyn Nicole Johnson, to visit Alameda High. To make this possible, we need to raise $5500 and so we are seeking your support. The proposed visit will include:

- Author Presentation and Reading
- Question and Answer
- Luncheon with Students
- A Classroom Visit with Creative Writers
The schoolwide assembly will be held in Kofman Auditorium. We are delighted to be able to bring author Jocelyn Nicole Johnson to meet our students and discuss her work, a collection of short stories and novella that author Colson Whitehead calls, "Nimble, knowing and electrifying."
