Ahni's Medical and Living Expenses

Why am I asking for mutual aid right now?

Hi! My name is Ahni, I’m a Black and Chicana Queer Autistic woman and community organizer born and raised here in El Paso, TX. I’ve spent the past few years dealing with increasing disability due to lack of access to healthcare, inadequate support and accommodation, and our crumbling quality of life under late stage capitalism. Recently, my ability to work productively due to my ADHD and Autism (which was already very minimal to begin with) began to decline further and has left me out of work on a medical leave of absence.

I’ve been out of work for over a month and believed I’d be getting paid during this time using PTO and sick time along with Short Term Disability benefits I have through my employer. I sent my doctors the paperwork needed to receive my Short Term Disability pay, but they submitted it towards the end of the deadline and made a mistake that led to my claim being completely denied and closed. My doctor’s office has been informed and will likely correct it, but now I will need to go an additional 2-4 weeks without any pay depending on how long all of this takes.

I pay $400 of rent, buy all of my own food and necessities, and 100% of my medical expenses, so not having pay for this long will absolutely impact my life and potentially prevent me from being able to return to work at all. I need enough funds to make it to March 7th, 2025 which will be my next guaranteed pay date.
