Ahna's Earth Angels

Today we  got some very scary and disappointing news. Last week my great niece Ahna had a procedure at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital that determined that her airway is so compromised that she has to have a grafting operation that will rebuild her airway with cartilage from her ribs. She will have to have a tracheotomy for months while the graft heals. The expansions that they have been doing periodically for the past 5 years do not sustain her ability to breath. This is devastating for her. Her mom and dad had to explain to her that she will loose her voice and not be able to speak. She is 6 years old and so full of life. She loves to sing and dance and tell silly jokes in her deep husky voice resulting from scar tissue from so many surgeries to her airway. She was so very sad that she won’t be able to sing to Frozen anymore....heart wrenching.
You might remember that when she was 3 she finally had the tracheotomy removed and we were jubilant. But, it was a long and stressful week for her mom and dad. They stay at the hospital and sleep on a double recliner chair. They can’t afford a hotel even with the Children’s Hospital small discount. They also have to buy their own meals. They don’t qualify for the Ronald McDonald House because they live only about 75 miles from the hospital. People come from all over the world because of the renowned Respiratory Program at this hospital.
I am starting a Go Fund Me account for them to allow them to have a hotel room near the hospital where they can share and switch off to get a decent night sleep and a shower. Help with meals is imperative, they are in the middle of the city and it’s really expensive. I know because I was there with them during her surgery when she was 3.
