Hollie Vogel is the most upbeat and loving person I’ve ever met, which is why we’ve been friends for over 20 years. But after losing her father suddenly this past February, Hollie’s physical and emotional health has been spiraling downhill, as well as having an effect on her 8-year-old-son.
Soon after Hollie’s Dad passed unexpectedly while her and family members were caring for him, Rex was diagnosed with a very intense flu ranging from heart palpitations to repeated rounds of hives and more. This would be traumatic for any parent, but especially under the circumstances of the recent loss of her Dad.
Hollie was attempting to care for Rex, but also came down with the flu and had to muscle through for weeks and get through her Dad’s memorial as well. A few weeks passed and then things took a turn again. Hollie found herself bedridden and very confused. She thought it would pass and maybe just emotional but weeks have turned into months and many Dr’s appointments, being financially drained as well as mentally and spiritually.
The Doctors have had varied opinions and diagnoses from blood work and other tests including Epstein Barr Virus, Chronic Mononucleosis, Chronic fatigue syndrome, and a host of other viruses and ailments that have taken a toll on her immune system and digestive health. Hollie was trying to fight since the flu with eating right, but her body would not cooperate resulting in a weight loss of around 30 pounds in less than 2 months.
Rex has also been affected in many of the same ways and could possibly have had the same virus. Hollie loves being a Mom, and not being able to be the parent she desires to be for her son and being barely able to get out of bed and function has weighed heavy on her. There have been many, many tears shed not knowing what the future holds.
The journey from doctor to doctor, searching for answers and cures for almost 6 months has been brutal. When one ailment has healed, another one pops up. So, the hunt continues. Now they’re seeking help from independent doctors in Orange County, which are out-of-network and aren’t covered under insurance.
Her mom has been helping out financially as best she can, but is on a limited income. By now, Hollie doesn’t have much left in the bank due to doctor appointments, ER visits, Ambulance transports, deductibles, medications, and not being able to work, which is why we put together this Go Fund Me. She’s even willing to sell her home if necessary to get back on her feet but right now she’s just trying to get better.
Hollie never thought she would be in a place to ask for financial assistance, but this unseen set of circumstances have transpired, and Jessica and Laura are reaching out to friends on her behalf. The last thing Hollie needs to worry about right now is how her bills are going to get paid, she needs to focus on her health, and her little boy. Any financial donation is going towards treatment, medical bills and getting well.
God’s putting Hollie’s faith to the test right now, but He is good, and won’t let her down. Let’s not let her down either. Even if it’s $10, let’s help Hollie heal and get back to living life and I know she will pay it forward.
Hollie also is asking for prayer for her mouth (tongue specifically) and throat to heal and for strength to trust the Lord and persevere with hope that healing is coming. She’s also grateful for all the loving support she has been given through phone calls, checking on her, and all sorts of acts of love that have been done to care for her and Rex during this challenging time.
Thank you so much for your consideration and supporting our friend.
