raise money for the MSF Alaska crui
Donation protected
I am a 47 year old who was diagnosed with MS five years ago. I would like to believe that my life isn't over and that I can still enjoy life and that I can still contribute to my community. I want to take this Alaskan cruise on the Celebration Ship Solstice. My partner will be accompanying me and I've already got a vote of confidence in the form of a 1,000 dollar grant from the MS Foundation. I would like to go rock-climbing on the cruise's climbing wall just to see if I've still got it in me (on belay, of course ) and soak up all the interesting MS lectures and information-sessions and see all the people I met on our first MSF cruise in the Caribbean, where the heat really took it out of me. I got so much out of that time, and I'd like to get the most out of this one too, with the added advantage of the cool weather! I've always wanted to go explore the spellbinding natural beauty of the Alaskan inner fjords , the Tracy Arm, Ketchican, Skagway and most especially Juneau, because who wouldn't love the wonder of a city that you can't drive to (Look it up!) I really want to celebrate my partner too, who gave up a 6-figure salary job to care for me when I was in the hospital and couldn't balance well enough to cross the room safely. That was a dark period in my life: I was in Miami Beach Mt Sinai Hospital, my mother's family had abandoned me unceremoniously and I had three relapses in one year, leaving me dazed and confused about what I really know about my family's loyalty and in truth traumatized and unable to work with fatigue and loss of balance. I have been so blessed to have a loving and devoted father going above and beyond to help me.
I have had the time to start a closed Facebook group for those of us with chronic illnesses and cancer. By the way, if that describes you, I have a great group for you. Just introduce yourself to me on FB and I'll add you to our wonderful bunch for commiseration, best practices , new developments, support and general kvetching.
