My name is Than Tenn and I am asking for donations to help my family in Jamaica survive and rebuild after losing their homes to Hurricane Melissa. As you’ve seen on the news, Hurricane Melissa has gutted the Western side of Jamaica. The devastation is heart-rending to witness; I have no words to express what I’m seeing, especially knowing how much work it has taken to somewhat recover from the last hurricane that impacted the region. I live in Florida but my family lives in the mountain regions on the border of Westmoreland and St Elizabeth, just north of where Melissa made landfall and early reports before the power and cable lines went out was that all their houses were destroyed, and they were sheltering in the church (the only fully concrete structure on the property). Many of you have asked how you can help. Please donate whatever you can. I know they’ll need as much financial help as they can possibly get as their entire homes have been lost to the storm. If you don’t want to use GoFundMe and you know how to contact me or any of my brothers, please reach out to one of us. Once we regain contact, we will have a better idea of what exactly is needed but currently finance is the main need as anything else will have to be transported there which is another issue with multiple main roads blocked or impassable due to debris. If you are a non-profit and would like to donate on a broader range, the government has established a disaster relief website at https://supportjamaica.gov.jm/. Please consider donating as the damage to the infrastructure is immense: roads, hospitals, supermarkets, and many other essential businesses have been decimated in western Jamaica. Recovery will be a long road, but we will overcome, and we will move on. #Jamaicastrong
