Paul Trask fighting ALS
Donation protected
Thank you for visiting our page. We are posting this page in an effort to help Paul in his fight with ALS Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Paul began his struggle with this disease at the age of 48. He courageously faced this disease with confidence and without fear. Paul whole heartedly believes that this is the way God wanted his life to be. His unconditional love and resolve not to complain of his situation is an inspiration to anyone who meets him. He has not spoken a word in more that four years, yet we all seem to know how he feels and that he loves us and is so very thankful to have the chance to be with us. Since the contraction of his disease he has been able to see the birth of both of his grandchildren and his two youngest children graduate from high school. We thought this would not happen.
Paul decided to be placed on a ventilator because he wanted to continue to be part of our family as long as God would allow him. Since being placed on the vent his body has continued to waste away, but his mind is still with us. We try include him in as many activities as his body will allow.
We have struggled for many years to keep up with medical expenses to keep Paul healthy and in an environment that allows him to be healthy and remain in our home. During his last short visit to the hospital he contracted both a blood infection and a bed sore. The state of Pennsylvania has regulated that we must now pay more that $24,000.00 a year towards Paul care in addtion to the already $20,000.00 that we spend for insurance and supplies.
We are asking that our family and friends consider helping to share the financial burden that has been presented, both now and over the past five years. As we have struggled to bear it ourselves, we can no longer. Our hope is to clear away the previous bills and raise money toward our yearly spend down required by the state.
