Support Elaine - Stroke Recovery
Donation protected
It was Saturday morning August 29th when our mother had a stroke. She was taken to the hospital and was in a comatos state for 3 weeks. Of course, we were all very upset and concerned about her recovery. There was no way of knowing if or when she would wake up. We were all very happy and excited when she finally opened her eyes and we could tell she was aware of us and things happening around her.
She was finally moved to a Skilled Nursing Facility for recovery. Again, we had no idea what her recovery would be from this point. She was only awake a short amount of time each day but her therapy began the day after she arrived.
Doing Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy, she has shown great improvement! She has worked on swallowing and learning how to eat solid foods again, speech communication is slowly improving. Thankfully, she was able to be home for Christmas to enjoy family in her own home. She took her first steps mid January. Every small step is so encouraging to all of us.
After 5 months, we are so excited, she is finally coming home! Heather and our mom live together in McCleary. Heather has been working hard with my mom, learning about therapy and also preparing for my mom's return.
There are several things we need-
First, there will be a ramp built going from the sidewalk up onto the front porch of the home and also a cement slab where the car will be parked to help when the ground is muddy and wet.
Next, we need to have a sit down shower installed which involves removing and replacing the existing tub and bathroom sink counter to make it fit properly. This will also affect the position of the toilet.
Then we are getting a "Sit to Stand" supported device, similar to a hoyer lift. This will make it easier and safer to assist our mom lifting her from her wheelchair to another chair or toilet...etc.
There will be other expenses as well-too many to list here.
Our estimate is around $20,000 and is needed as soon as possible. This is a very large amount but anything you can give would be helpful and very much appreciated.
She has a long way to go but we are looking forward to a full recovery and we want to do all that we can to make that happen.
So many of you have already given much of your time, effort, finances, prayers... We are so thankful for everything you have done and have been overwhelmed by all the support.
Again, we truely appreciate anything you can do and will be forever grateful. Love you all.
Many Blessing!
Elaine, Heather, Paula and Kim
