In memory of Greg

Hello,

We are Guilherme, Rafaela, Sophia, Armando and Santinha, fundraising for our beloved brother, son, husband, and all-round incredible guy, Gregório Ribeiro.

Greg was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer in January of this year. The doctors initially told us Greg would be with us for maybe 1-5 years as the type of cancer he had usually responded well to chemotherapy.

However, it is with great sadness that Greg left us last week, peacefully and with no pain. We never thought he’d be taken away from us within 3 months of getting the biopsy results. It is difficult to find the right words to honour my brother’s memory but for those of you reading this who knew Greg, then you know how much love we all felt for this special human being.

We know that many people wanted to help during these last few difficult months. However, there was often nothing “practical” to do apart from the kind words of support, and generally being there for us.

With Greg’s sorrowful departure came the financial pressure of organising the funeral and supporting his beloved wife, Rafaela. There were also numerous costs incurred bringing family and friends from Brazil to say their final goodbyes. Hence, we decided to create this fundraising page to give people an opportunity to help in any way possible, no matter how small. We are deeply grateful for any support you may be able to provide and any extra funds raised we wish to donate to Royal Trinity Hospice. They offered superb support to Greg in his final few weeks and we want to ensure that other end-of-life cancer patients receive the same type of outstanding care.

Within Greg lived the best part of all of us, in his smile, in his infectious laugh and in his general good spirit and joie de vivre! We will all miss you sorely Greg but know that you will live on in all our memories. We just want to take this moment to thank everyone who has been there for us throughout this heart-wrenching journey. Olá,

Somos Guilherme, Rafaela, Sophia, Armando e Santinha, arrecadando fundos para nosso amado irmão, filho, marido e rapaz incrível, Gregório Ribeiro.

Greg foi diagnosticado com câncer neuroendócrino pancreático estágio 4 em janeiro deste ano. Os médicos inicialmente nos disseram que o Greg ficaria conosco por talvez 1-5 anos, pois o tipo de câncer que ele tinha geralmente responde bem à quimioterapia.

No entanto, é com muita tristeza que o Greg nos deixou na semana passada, em paz e sem dor. Nunca pensamos que ele partiria 3 meses após obtermos os resultados da biópsia. É difícil encontrar as palavras certas para homenagear a memória do meu irmão, mas para aqueles que estão lendo isso e conheceram o Greg, vocês sabem o quanto amor todos nós sentimos por este ser humano especial.

Sabemos que muitas pessoas quiseram ajudar nesses últimos meses difíceis. No entanto, muitas vezes não havia nada “prático” a se fazer além das palavras doces de apoio e estando presente quando precisávamos..

Com a triste partida do Greg, aumentaram as necessidades financeiras de organizar o funeral e ajudar sua amada esposa, Rafaela. Também houve vários custos decorrentes da necessidade de trazer familiares e amigos do Brasil para se despedir dele. Por isso, decidimos criar esta página de arrecadação de fundos para dar às pessoas a oportunidade de ajudar de qualquer maneira possível, por menor que seja. Estamos profundamente gratos por qualquer apoio que vocês possam fornecer e quaisquer fundos extras arrecadados, desejamos doar ao Royal Trinity Hospice. Eles ofereceram um excelente suporte ao Greg em suas últimas semanas e queremos garantir que outros pacientes com câncer recebam o mesmo tipo de atendimento excepcional.

Dentro do Greg vivia o melhor de todos nós, no seu sorriso, na sua gargalhada contagiante e no seu bom humor e joie de vivre (alegria de viver)! Todos nós sentiremos muito a sua falta, Greg, mas saiba que você viverá em todas as nossas memórias. Só queremos aproveitar este momento para agradecer a todos que estiveram conosco durante esta jornada difícil.
