Hello, thanks for coming here. My name is Nat. I am Taino qtipoc single parent of three teens. Our living room is filled with laughter, art projects, music, conversations of the future and ways to make new friends. Despite what we have been through, we continue to stay in deep connection and love one another up. We are needing to find housing by the end of April and are hoping to raise money to help out with the first and last month's rent, security, and moving expenses. Anything you can donate is extremely appreciated!
My therapist said to me “to be in need is not a flaw, it’s being human.” I know this so deeply inside myself. I support others in asking for help. And yet it is still hard for me.
My youngest who is 14 took it upon herself and came to me with slides she put together and suggested we raise money for the move. My immediate reaction was awe and appreciation but quickly turned to an absolutely no. And I know where it is rooted. I learned at a very early age not to burden anyone. Which lead me to be self-reliant for most of my life. Over the last 7 years, I began practicing asking for help because children are amazing mirrors. Watching them not ask for help was a hard reflection.
We moved to Seattle from the East Coast in the spring of 2021. By October of that year, I was faced with not having a choice but to ask for help. We were in a car accident that changed everything. Physically, emotionally mentally, and especially financially. My work is healing work and I couldn't offer what I loved to make a living. Being so new to the area and finding new community while being in that much pain was truly uncomfortable in all ways. Healing from a traumatic head injury and a major spinal injury and not being able to physically do what I was used to doing was devastating and a huge adjustment. It was quite humbling. Still is. I had to figure out other ways to make money. Six months later in the spring of 2022 we unexpectedly had to move. We had 20 days to find another home. It threw me over the edge. And now we are needing to find a new place to call home again.
To share this publically, asking this big ask, is causing some self-doubt. I'm aware I am getting in my way. And I don't want this to impact my kiddos more than it has to. I am a fabulous parent, and I am still human. I realized that allowing fear to lead the way would be a disservice to myself and my children. It is also not in alignment with all I have gained on this journey thus far. I have been on a reckoning and healing adventure of self-belief, living authentically, and building a whole new life for myself and my family since moving here. It was courage that gave me my life. Courage that brought me here to the west coast, and create new work because of the accident. It is this place and land that has allowed me and continues to offer me the deepest healing I’ve ever experienced. I always told myself that if I ever used gofundme it would be for top surgery or somatic/ IFS training. I am standing at my edge and feeling the courage and vulnerability to be seen in this ask. I am here asking for your help. Please share with everyone you may know and don’t know. If you’re local to Seattle and know of anyone who has a home for rent for a family of four, please dm me. Thank you for your care and money to support me and my family.
