Help 4yr old Lucy fight a rare kidney cancer

Lucy - our shining star. 

Lucy’s namesake is ‘shining star’ or ‘shining light’.
Lucy Mia Lazzari certainly does shine bright.     She is bold, she is beautiful, she is caring and she is full of sass. 

On the 6th October 2019, Lucy was diagnose with a rare children’s kidney cancer, bilateral Wilms. She was 4 years old at the time. Lucy had a huge 18.5cm tumor on her left kidney and two tumors on her right kidney. 

Lucy has spent the last few months in both the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and theGeelong Hospital, and initially underwent six weeks of radical chemo to shrink the tumors. On 28th November 2019 Lucy had major surgery at RCH to remove her left kidney and 10-20% of her right kidney. 7 tumors were found in total. 

Commencing next week, Lucy will start another grueling 19 week schedule of chemo and radiation.

What makes Lucy’s diagnosis even tougher for the Lazzari family is that 3 years ago, when Lucy was just one and her older brother Harry was three, their mother Georgie was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (aka. anal cancer). Georgie was 33 and had to undergo aggressive chemo and radiation herself for a number of months. The Lazzari family fought hard, and fought for their kids. Thankfully Georgie is now in remission and has been cancer-free since January 2017. 

Lucy has so many people that love her and so many people have reached out to see how they can help or support Lucy as well as Georgie, Sam and Harry through this extremely difficult time. With a monster journey ahead, including scans every 3 months for the next 5 years and extensive genetic testing, we urge everyone to please contribute to ‘Team Lucy’. All the contributions will go towards supporting Lucy and the Lazzari family with all the expenses incurred in Lucy’s current and on-going medical treatment for her cancer.
