My name is Chris. I was recently diagnosed with stage 4 malignant melanoma (skin cancer). Currently, I have 2 scans (MRI & PET) to see if there has been any spread. If the scans are clear, I will have surgery to remove any cancer cells from inside the site where the tumor was removed. The surgical oncologist said that I won't be able to work for a few weeks after surgery while I recover. I currently work part time as a preschool teacher but I'm not contracted which means if I don't work, I don't get paid. Also because it's part time, I don't have paid sick days to use. Not working for that extended period of time with bills to pay will be a huge hardship, especially just coming off of the holiday break and not being paid for 2 weeks. So that's what I need some help with. I am currently looking for full time work but even if that came through immediately, I wouldn't be about to start until after my recovery period. So I'm kind of...stuck.
