Update: We're Back in Our Community!

Hello to our incredible support system,

We have some wonderful, tangible progress to share, and we owe so much of it to you.

First, and most importantly, we have moved into our temporary rental home—and it's right here in our own community. Last night was our first night back among our neighbors, and that feeling of being "home" means more than we can say. We are so grateful to the neighbor who offered us this space.

Second, thanks to your generosity and help from family, we secured a car. It’s a smaller vehicle, but it runs and gives us the crucial independence we needed.

Our Current Focus: The Essentials of Daily Life

We've been able to rent some basic furniture (sofas, chairs), which is a huge help. Now, we're facing the next layer of needs: the essentials that make a house livable and a family functional.

Funds raised now will go directly toward:

· Bedding, pillows, and towels for everyone.
· Clothes for our kids, who lost so much in the disruption.
· Hot meals and groceries, as stocking a kitchen from scratch is costly.
· Essential home goods like kitchenware, laundry supplies, and toiletries.
· Crib/Toddler bed or pack n' play

You helped us get a roof and a car. Now, you can help us restore the simple, daily comforts for our family of seven while our own home is being restored. Getting the kids dressed in their own clothes and tucking them into their own beds will make all the difference.

Our gratitude is endless. Thank you for walking this path with us. We feel your support with every step forward.

With all our thanks,

The Reid Family
Cleo,Curtis Sr., Curtis Jr., Solomon, Mykenzie, Chelseigh, Sara, and Buttercup

The Story
Hello, my name is Cleo. On the evening of November 13th, our family experienced every homeowner's nightmare when a fire broke out in our garage. In a moment, our sense of security was shattered.

My husband, Curtis Sr., and I were downstairs when a neighbor's frantic knock alerted us to the fire. We opened the door to the garage, and black smoke started billowing into the house. I had to get to the baby upstairs. While I was running up the stairs, the power went out. The smoke was so thick and it was so dark, I needed my phone's flashlight to find our 15-month-old, Sara, in her crib. We are incredibly thankful that everyone, including our dog, Buttercup, made it out safely. We stood together across the street, watching in shock as the fire consumed the front of the house and the car inside.

A Loss We Can't Absorb on Our Own
The car was our 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage. It had become our only vehicle after we lost our other car in an accident this past July, a financial blow from which we were still recovering.

To be fully transparent, after Curtis Sr. was laid off last year from Lockheed Martin, we had to make difficult decisions to keep our family afloat, including downgrading our car insurance. He worked tirelessly and we were blessed that he found a new job in August. We were finally getting back on our feet.

Now, this fire has left us with another impossible situation: because we only had liability insurance, there will be no insurance payout for our car.

A Path Back to Stability
We are humbly asking for your help to get our family back on the road. This specific goal is based on our most critical needs:

  • A Safe Replacement Vehicle: The cost of a reliable used car that can fit our family, plus Florida sales tax, registration, and insurance.
  • Immediate Essentials: This covers hotel stays, food while we're displaced, and replacing crucial items lost like car seats, shoes, and blankets.
  • GoFundMe Processing Fees: A small portion covers the platform's fees.

Our Family
We are a family of seven, grounded in our faith and committed to each other:

  • Curt Jr. (20), our mechanic son.
  • Solomon (18), future engineer away at college.
  • Mykenzie (17), a talented performing arts student.
  • Chelseigh (13), an honors student and avid rollerblader.
  • Sara (1), our joyful toddler.

We believe in the goodness of people and the power of community. Any support you can offer (whether a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing this page) would mean the world to us as we work to rebuild.

With sincere thanks,
Cleo, Curtis Sr., Curtis Jr., Solomon, Mykenzie, Chelseigh, Sara, and Buttercup
