After The Bell Rings - Short Film

Hello Everyone,

My name is Craig Farnan, I am an Actor/Writer from Swords, County Dublin. It’s always been a dream of mine to be involved in the film industry somehow, and in 2020 my goal became that much closer when being accepted into the full-time programme at Bow Street Academy. Since Graduating I’ve been working endlessly to reach my goal and in a cliche saying “chasing my dream”.

After graduating Bow Street, I was over the moon to be given my first opportunity to create my own film thanks to the Actor as Creator scheme from Screen Ireland and Bow Street Academy. I was awarded the grant last year and have been working every day to make my film a reality (which is so much harder than I thought).

I have an amazing cast and crew involved in the film and I want to make sure everyone involved is paid and to make the best film possible. Unfortunately with the amount I have, I can’t pay everyone on the set and this is why I’m reaching out to social media to try and help me. Any donation will be a massive help. I have amazing people on board the team already and to pay them what they deserve is my priority.

My film is called “After the Bell Rings” which is a really personal story to me and one I need to tell. As many of my friends and family would know, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a rare form of cancer, when I was 8 years old, and it was the worst two years of my and my family's life. My family went through hell during those two years, but I know for a fact without them I wouldn’t be here today. They’re my inspiration. This film focuses on the trauma cancer holds on both people who have beaten it and who are battling it now, but the main theme is family. This film is a love letter to my family and the importance they hold in my life. I hope this film can help people like me to know it’s ok to be scared, and to know how important their family is to them and the fact they’d do anything for them. That’s one thing I did was sometimes take them for granted. But they made sure when I was going through it, or having an operation, no matter what, they put a smile on my face and I was never scared, and sometimes I forget that.

After the Bell rings follows a young man James, a childhood cancer survivor, who visits the hospital for the first time since being given the all clear to see Luke, a young boy battling the same illness he had. With past trauma resurfacing, the journey proves more difficult than he could’ve ever anticipated.
