Hi, I'm Judy, a friend through OCMA, and I'm hoping to raise funds for the Hicks family. The sudden, unexpected, and unthinkable passing of Larry Hicks, a marine veteran, happened on September 7th while he was picking up groceries. Just 54 years old and a hardworking handyman, Larry was husband to Jessica and father to Elizabeth and Victoria and a helper and friend to many. He loved his girls, and they loved their dad. Jessica and Larry worked hard as volunteers for Orange Coast Musical Arts for several years, helping homeschooled kids discover the joy of music through marching and stage bands while building the young people’s interpersonal skills. They also worked with the California Christian Home Educators Association, volunteering for their annual convention, among other youth projects.
Larry and Jessica were just two weeks away from celebrating their 25th anniversary and had just seen their two daughters off to college through scholarships. Larry worked many jobs to support his family while Jessica homeschooled their children. Over the past two years, things have been more difficult financially for the family due to Covid. While now trying to find a job, Jessica is left to travel through the burden of daily life alone with funeral and memorial expenses. Without life insurance or a pension of any kind, donations will help cover her immediate expenses of $3,500 for the funeral and memorial and the balance for day-to-day living and associated costs for the girl’s education until she can find work.
Jessica’s strong faith will assist her in getting through the coming days; however, prayers, encouragement and support are so appreciated. She is hopeful to be able to hold a memorial for Larry in October, and information will be posted when it is available. For now, the family appreciates everyone allowing them their privacy while adjusting to the new normal of their life without Larry.
