Diane and Roman Homrich have spent the past decade living every family’s worst nightmare. Their granddaughter, Jessica Heeringa, disappeared in 2013 while working at a gas station. Although a man was later convicted in connection with her disappearance, Jessica has never been found. Her family has never had the chance to bring her home or lay her to rest.

In the years after she vanished, Diane and Roman poured their savings into hiring private detectives and following every lead. They refused to give up on Jessica. That commitment came at a cost: they sold their home and moved into a mobile home they could afford.

Now the family is facing a new crisis—one they never saw coming.

A hidden water line in their mobile home leaked over time, creating black mold behind the walls. Their insurance company denied the claim, saying they should have somehow “looked between the walls” to catch it earlier. The cleanup and repairs will cost tens of thousands of dollars, and their savings are gone.

On top of this, Roman recently suffered a serious fall. He’s in the hospital with a broken hip and collarbone and will need to move to a nursing facility once he’s stable. Diane is trying to manage his care and the home repairs at the same time, with no financial cushion.

This family has already endured more than most could imagine. Right now, they need help to make sure Diane can stay in their home while Roman recovers.
