My name is Don Drehoff and I am a new friend and production client of Andy Waldeck (he's the good-looking guy in the middle). Meeting folks in his circle these past few months, I’ve heard everyone say the same thing about him: “Andy will give you the shirt off his back.”
Well, Andy “lost his shirt” over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays – experiencing heart failure and unexpected double bypass surgery – without many of the resources you and I might have to survive and recover.
So … Andy and his family could really use a little “shirt off of our backs” to help him out at this very difficult time in their lives.
First, in case you do not know this talented and humble man, some background on Andy Waldeck. A world-class musician. Founding member of the D.C.-based band “Egypt” back in his younger days. Later success as the leader of the Charlottesville, VA-based band “Earth To Andy.” An acclaimed singer, songwriter, bass player, and more recently a world-class music producer.
And while his gift to the world has been his music, Andy has also gifted us an example of a life unselfish – whether it was helping other out other artists, or simply helping people in need along the way – again, giving “the shirt off his back” to so many others. However, all of this has often been at his own expense – both physically and financially. Throughout his adult life, Andy never made the time or had the money to see a doctor. And when his heart episode forced him to seek medical attention after 25 years without – it was also discovered he has diabetes.
Now, in the aftermath of his successful open-heart surgery, and amid his slow but sure physical recovery -- he is burdened with the astronomical medical bills that come with major life-saving surgery. And again, without medical insurance – Andy and his family are facing over $100,000 of hospital and surgical debt. This is even as he begins to try to pay down that debt, a little bit a month, on his own – a debt that more than likely continues long after he’s left this good earth.
To say he’s a bit stuck and overwhelmed would be an understatement. And again – in that place we all never want to be, much less think about – but could be there tomorrow.
So, here’s the place where we can help. If you could contribute $25 toward our goal, that would be greatly appreciated. $50, $75 or $100 would be even better.
The good news? Andy is on the road to recovery and will be back to producing and playing, singing and serving again soon! If you’ve been touched by Andy through the years, here’s your chance to help. And even if you haven’t, we’ve all been in that moment or will be, when we will need “someone’s shirt” to help get us back on track. Here’s hoping you can use this opportunity to “pay it forward.”
Thanks in advance for your consideration and support!
