In around Nov. of 2017 Moe was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. This is scarring of the lungs and they have no cure other then a transplant. Moe was very ambitious, hard working and loved to bass fish. He never sat around doing nothing as he would always be working on something. For someone like Moe to have to be confined and not be able to do any of these things any more is heart wrenching. Those days are over for him as he is limited to what he can and can not do. We have been watching his health diminish as he can not breathe and coughs all the time and there is a lot more issues that he has to deal with as well. From healthy to having faulty lungs all at once. This is very hard on him and our family and friends that know and care about Moe Martinez. He has not been able to work due to this situation and there for we are strapped financially. We have pretty much depleted our savings through out this ordeal. It took over a year of testing from Kaiser to see if Moe was even a candidate for the transplant. He had to go through so much and waiting for test results to keep moving forward to get to UCSF was nerve racking . UCSF had Kaiser cardiologist have Moe return to Kaiser to have a stent put in and then he was put on blood thinners. When we finally got the call from UCSF I cried. Our first appointment was 3 months ago. They told us that due to the stent and blood thinners they could not do the transplant for at least six months. Also In order for UCSF to even consider the transplant they want to make sure that we have the funds for the after care treatment. That will consist of living in San Francisco near the hospital for 6 weeks, (that is after he stays in the hospital for 2 weeks) having 2 caretakers, food, medicine and gas back and fourth to UCSF oh do not let me forget the rediculously priced parking prices. Insurance does not cover any of the above except some meds. We have our next appointment on Sept. 12th at UCSF and they will be checking our progress as well. I want to thank each and everyone of you in advance for taking the time to read this, sharing it and making donations. Moe and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are very greatful!
