❤️ AFTER 279 DAYS IN THE NICU… ZACHARIAH IS FINALLY COMING HOME! ❤️

On Christmas Day 2025, during a terrible ice storm in Bismarck, North Dakota, two tiny babies decided they were ready to make their entrance into the world — 25 weeks into their mama’s pregnancy.

The second twin, Zachariah, was born in the back of a car on the side of the road while his family was desperately trying to make it to the hospital. He weighed just 1 pound, 3 ounces.

His sister, Zaylee, was delivered shortly after they arrived at the hospital by ambulance, via emergency C-section. She weighed just over 1 pound.

These babies were impossibly tiny, born extremely premature, and facing a very long road ahead. But from the very beginning, they showed everyone just how strong they could be. ❤️

Zaylee was incredibly fortunate and, despite her extreme prematurity, did not suffer any major complications. After spending months in the NICU, she was finally discharged in May and got to go home and begin life with her family.

But Zachariah's journey has been much longer.

Because of complications from his premature birth — including chronic lung disease — Zachariah has needed intensive medical care and has remained in the NICU since the day he was born.

And now, after 279 long days in the Sanford NICU, the day we have all been waiting for is finally here…

ZACHARIAH IS COMING HOME!

His sister has been home waiting for him, and now these twins will finally get to be together at home where they belong. ❤️

But this family’s journey has been anything but easy.

Just weeks after the twins were born, their mama received another devastating diagnosis: stage 3 rectal cancer. The family believes her cancer may have contributed to the twins being born so incredibly early.

While fighting cancer herself and undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, she has continued to be an amazing mother to both of her babies.

Through all of this, she has remained grateful, hopeful, and incredibly happy that her two little fighters are alive, growing, and finally getting the chance to come home. ❤️

Now comes the next chapter — and with it comes a whole new set of challenges.

After 279 days in the NICU, there is still so much that needs to be done to prepare for Zachariah's homecoming. Medical equipment, supplies, clothing, diapers, feeding supplies, transportation, and all of the unexpected expenses that come with bringing home a medically fragile former 25-week preemie add up quickly.

With Mama still battling cancer, Zaylee already home, and Zachariah finally getting ready to leave the NICU, this family has been stretched in every direction imaginable.

We are hoping our community can come together one more time to help give these babies the homecoming they deserve. ❤️
