About the Project
The purpose of ALE Summer Camp is to work with a select group of children from disadvantaged schools in Quibdó, a region in the pacific coast of Colombia, mainly populated by African descendants and Indigenous people. Not only we will help the students get excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Math, but we'll also follow up with them throughout the year, guide them through the college application process, and help them foster ties with international universities
*** Thanks to the support of our sponsors and collaborators, we were able to raise about $16,000!!!... Please help us raise the final $3,600 we need to make this project a reality (will cover the cost of food for the week) *** (note that the program starts in 2 weeks)
Meet the story behind ALE..
Ever since I was a kid I dreamed of becoming a scientist in the aerospace field and work for NASA. However, because of the social and economic situation in my hometown (Quibdó, Colombia), I was constantly told by many people that those aspirations were nothing but dreams. Nonetheless, with the support of my parents and family, I pursued my dreams. Later, I was blessed to meet a professor who bet on me; offering me an opportunity to work on research, pursue an advanced degree, and start my aerospace career in the United States.
So I started the Afro-Latino Experience (ALE), to provide to other children from my community a way to fulfill their dreams, regardless of how impossible they may seem, just like once this opportunity was offered to me.
The program will continue working with the same group of students throughout highschool, as well as add a new cohort every year.
