Help Sheila Get a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Donation protected
On Sunday, July 5th, 2020, my best friend Sheila Duong was arrested for defending her family from an abuser and predator. She is now facing Assault and Battery charges. Sheila risked her employment to protect her family, and is currently in need of a Criminal Defense lawyer to fight her case in court on August 21st, 2020.

For the past three months, Sheila's aunt's partner, who was welcomed into the family with opened arms three years ago, has been creating a hostile and dangerous environment for Sheila's family, which consists of her grandmother, older sister, aunt, cousin, and a newborn baby.  The family currently lives in a home that was bought by this man and her aunt. When it came to light three months ago that he had been cheating, the family tried to talk to him about the situation to see what would be best for the family and the newborn.

Things were good until they weren't. This man brought his girlfriend, a stranger with a history of drug abuse, onto the property three months ago, completely disrespecting the family. This woman came onto the property and threatened the entire family with a knife, saying she was not afraid to use it. The family tried to get a restraining order but was denied.  This man did not try to deescalate the situation. Instead, he said he was going to be renovating the basement of the house so that his girlfriend could move in, even though Sheila's family felt unsafe and had signed a contract stating they would be living there for the next year. Sheila's family felt so unsafe that they took precautionary measures by leaving chairs against the front door so that they could hear when someone was entering the home, and they were barely getting any rest.

This woman then proceeded to take photos of Sheila's aunt's newborn baby and post it on her social media claiming it was her child with this man. He too would flaunt this and accept this. This man and his girlfriend have also been staying at a motel nearby the home, and coming and going onto the family's property as they please.  Sheila has made several attempts to communicate with this man and to reason with him but he would ignore her each time. She has been helping her family find a new apartment so that they could feel safe again and be rid of this man. She has asked for the past three months for him to leave her family alone so that they could focus on finding a new place to move into and feel safe again, but he has continued to disregard this request.

On July 5th, Sheila was viewing apartments with her grandmother and sister, when she received a call from her cousin while on the way back to the house saying that this man was on the property again. Upon arrival, Sheila confronted him asking if they could talk but he declined. The discussion was going to be merely about the move out process since he is technically the landlord, but he continued to refuse to talk to her and dismissed her.  At this point, Sheila grew angry so he proceeded to call the police on her, even though it was very obvious that she was in emotional distress trying to protect her family. Her grandmother, who doesn't understand this country's legal system, cried, pleaded and begged that the officers not take Sheila, but she was ignored.

As a woman who has witnessed domestic abuse by men in her family growing up, Sheila was triggered by this incident and acted as pure defense. This man is white, in his early 40's, a former professional boxer, and is bigger in size than her, and yet he felt the need to call the police on her when what she needed was medical attention.

When the police arrived, there was no regard for the context of the situation as Sheila in this case was deemed as the aggressor. She was arrested on site and detained for 6 hours while her family continued to be in distress.

Please consider helping Sheila and her family in whichever way that you can. If you cannot support financially, please consider sharing this page to your networks. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out.
