Debi's journey to recovery

Debi and I need our friends and family more than ever before.
My darling wife and best friend suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on October 2nd. This massive brain injury left her in a coma for nine days, and she then remained mostly paralyzed for another couple of weeks, making slow steady progress each day until she was able to flex fingers and toes on her left side as well as the right.
Her injury is serious but there is grounds for optimism that she can make a good recovery, with the right care, rehabilitation, and all of our love and yes, some financial support.
Debi did wake up - on October 11, she became marginally responsive to simple commands. She has since then been making daily progress, amazing us with her determination to get better. On October 18 she moved from ICU to rehab hospital, where she has begun to re-learn as much as can possibly be re-learned following a brain trauma if this kind. On January 10 she was discharged to home and has been making astonishing progress with home therapy and assigned 'homework' learning to rewire her neural pathways.
Debi's progress is being updated daily on caring bridge where you can sign up for updates and send well wishes. We're beginning to understand more about what we will need and how we should plan for recovery. Friends are asking how they can help. On CaringBridge we've started some tasks and mini projects.
As of March 2020 we are down 90% on our two incomes, and my business has slowed to a trickle due to my distracted state. The money we need, as we can see so far, is for:
- home care (not covered by insurance, costs $20 to $34 an hour, allows me to work and go out to run errands)
- medical bills - despite having good insurance we do still have copay and non-covered costs
- ongoing living essentials where our reduced income may not stretch to cover....
