Help Afghan women!

Tax deductible
Help Afghan women lead productive new lives through English! English Now!'s community service partner – the Washington Center for International Education – has launched a GoFundMe for an innovative program that is serving Afghan women refugees who have fled from Taliban persecution and oppression. Using remote learning, our teachers are helping 30 women judges and 12 mothers with young children by teaching them English so they can adapt to unfamiliar countries and cultures and get jobs to support their families. Please consider financially supporting this lifeline to Afghan women, as they start their new lives.

About WCIE ESOL Programs for Refugees:
  • Classes are offered to small groups of four students maximum, to ensure attention to individual student needs.
  • Teachers are experienced professionals, compassionate, and know their students.
  • Classes are online because most students do not have transportation to in-person classes and tailored to the very specific profiles of the students we are serving.
  • Along with English classes, WCIE is partnering with organizations including the Women's Bar Association of D.C., the International Rescue Committee, Educational Testing Service (ETS), and the Association of Afghan Medical Professionals of America, to design and deliver additional programming that supports our students.

About this Campaign:
  • This funding will sustain these programs through September 2023.
  • WCIE is raising funds to support classes for the 30 women judges and 12 mothers with young children. If you would like to earmark your support for one group or the other, let us know.
  • Thank you for considering supporting our campaign.

About the Washington Center for International Education (WCIE):
  • WCIE is a program of the Kids World Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
  • WCIE's purpose is to connect people and resources in Washington, D.C.’s distinctive international community, to the local community and to the needs of refugees.
  • WCIE teaches students in English classes but does not have a relationship with the refugees enrolled in its ESOL for Refugees classes, aside from their status as students.
  • 85% of funds raised will cover the salaries of the teachers for classes dedicated to these refugee students. Program administration is only 15% of total costs. Administrative costs are limited to the services of the Director of Academic Advising for the program.
