Hi! My name is Cecelia Wambach and I am a retired professor of math education from San Francisco State University. After I left my job, I began working with refugees in Greece. I was disheartened to see wonderful people running for their lives from countries, homes, and families that they loved. They could have been you or me. Now, years later, there is a second part to this story.
Last month, my friend and I picked up an Afghan refugee couple from the border. The U.S. Border Police had our names and phone numbers as their sponsors. We had taught their cousins in Greece. The couple had just walked and hitched rides from Brazil, through many countries, forests, muddy jungles and terrorizing border patrols. But they made it and found us. Since they were young physicians working for Western health organizations, they were not safe with the Taliban government. They had to escape in order to live. For safety reasons, we may not give their names. The money will go directly to them.

We are doing the best we can. Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude and joy that they survived. They are wonderful, grateful, traumatized, vulnerable, and hopeful. Please help us to help them find a new life in the U.S. We need money for housing, food and basic needs. We have already reached out for government assistance. The U.S. does not allow them to work until 150 days after their papers are processed. We are doing this now.
I am trying to reach many people, and ask for whatever you can give, small or large. Thank you, dear friends and family! Please forward this to everyone you know.
