4 Years Lost: Support Afghan Girls’ Education

Donation protected
Since the Taliban took over the country on 15 August 2021 (four years ago), they have banned nearly 1.4 million girls from going to school past grade six. Currently, Afghanistan is the only country in the world that bans girls’ secondary education. Girls and women are unable to attend school past the primary level, work or participate in public life.

Who We Are
Jawana Foundation , a volunteer-run and youth-led organization, with 98% female members and volunteers, is working to fill the gap and provide available and effective educational programs for girls in all 34 provinces of Afghanistan. We aim to strengthen advocacy networks and raise global awareness to promote and mobilize support for girls’ right to education in Afghanistan.

Our Goal
Since the regular education program is banned for girls above 6th grade, we support alternative learning programs for girls delivered through online classes, underground schools, digital platforms, and one-on-one mentorship programs.

Here is the list of programs we will be able to run with your support:

1. Language Programs: We aim to support girls to learn local and international languages through our online classes because we believe “a new language is a new life.” Programs are designed from beginner to advanced. Currently, we support Persian, English, German, French, and Chinese.

2. Tech Programs: We value technology and provide training in basic computer skills (Windows, Office, Typing) as well as AI tools, coding, graphic design, and editing software.

3. Online Income Programs: Since women and girls are not allowed to go to work, we are aiming to teach them the easiest and most trusted ways to make money online from home. It can not only help them cover their personal expenses but it also feeds their families. We have professional trainers for YouTube monetization, Instagram monetization, affiliate marketing, making money with video editing and digital marketing skills.

4. Book Club: We started our book club program with the help of three volunteers from Canada in 2024. With your help we can build a stronger online and physical library for girls who are not able to attend classrooms to read and think.

5. Art Programs: Most of our students are busy with drawing and painting. But a lot of them are struggling with materials and workspace, which we will provide for them.

6. Scholarship Mentorship Program: We provide one-on-one mentorship for girls interested in pursuing scholarships abroad. This includes researching opportunities, guidance on the Common Application, essay support, interview preparation, and step-by-step assistance throughout the application process. Our mentors ensure every girl receives the support she needs to confidently apply and succeed.

The cost varies from 0.2 CAD for a pen to other expenses like internet, laptops, books, and subscriptions for online resources. Check below.
