My Journey to a Straighter Future
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,
I am Jasmine, an international student studying in China, and I’m reaching out to you today with a desperate, heartfelt plea for help. I need urgent funds for life-changing scoliosis surgery this isn’t a procedure I can wait for; it needs to happen as soon as possible. For years, my spine has curved abnormally, and it’s only grown worse over time. Now, with a 50-degree curve pressing on my internal organs, it’s no longer just about pain—it’s about stopping further damage to my health, and keeping up with the daily life of a student far from home.
Understanding Scoliosis: Its Urgent Toll on Me
Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine (instead of the natural straight line), and right now, it’s taking over my life:
• Physically: Chronic, throbbing back pain makes even simple tasks unbearable sitting through lectures, walking to campus, or carrying textbooks leaves me sore and exhausted. My shoulders and hips are uneven, my range of movement is limited, and worst of all, the 50-degree curve (recently confirmed by medical imaging) is pressing on my internal organs. This causes frequent shortness of breath and constant fatigue, turning keeping up with coursework into a daily battle. My doctors say waiting longer will only make the curve worse, risking more organ strain and a harder recovery.
• Mentally: Living with this painful, limiting condition so far from my family is isolating. The pain, physical restrictions, and visible changes to my body have chipped away at my self-esteem sparking anxiety about finishing my studies and depression over feeling “stuck,” instead of living the active, fulfilling study-abroad life I dreamed of. I’m scared of what will happen if I can’t get surgery soon.
My Fight Against Scoliosis
I first noticed signs of scoliosis back in 2016. For years, I tried every non-surgical option to manage it: daily corrective braces, countless chiropractor visits, and strict physical therapy routines all in the hope of slowing or reversing the curve. But none of it worked. The pain worsened, and the curve progressed to its current 50 degrees. My doctors here in China have been clear: surgery is the only way to stop further damage to my spine and organs, and it needs to happen as soon as possible. Waiting isn’t an option not if I want to avoid more health complications.
Why This Urgent Surgery Matters And Why I Need Your Support
My medical team has recommended spinal fusion surgery to correct the 50-degree curve. The procedure will involve straightening my spine with medical rods and screws, then fusing the vertebrae to lock in the correction. It’s a scary step especially recovering far from my family but it’s my only hope for:
• Stopping further damage to my organs and spine;
• Long-term relief from debilitating back pain;
• Regaining the energy to focus on my studies and daily life;
• The chance to be a student without my body holding me back.
The challenge is the cost: the total surgery and care here in China is roughly 85,000 RMB (around 12,000 US dollars). As an international student, I don’t qualify for local medical subsidies, and this sum is far beyond what my family and I can afford on our own. Every dollar raised will go directly to critical, time-sensitive needs: hospital stays, surgeon fees, anesthesia, post-operative physical therapy, and follow-up scans to ensure my spine heals properly all to get this surgery scheduled as soon as possible.
My Goal: Surgery As Soon As Possible
I need to raise 12,000 US dollars quickly fast enough to book this surgery without delay. The longer I wait, the more my spine curves, and the greater the risk to my organs. Even a small donation brings me closer to getting the care I need right now: a future free from constant pain, where I can walk to class without wincing, focus on exams without fatigue, and feel like myself again.
How You Can Help Me Right Now
• Donate: Whatever you can give nothing is little $10, $50, or more directly funds my urgent surgery and recovery. Every bit gets me closer to scheduling the procedure I can’t wait for.
• Share: Even if you can’t donate, please share my story with your friends, family, or social networks right away. More visibility means a better chance of raising the funds fast before my condition gets worse.
• Send Support: Kind words, prayers, or well wishes mean the world. They keep me hopeful when the urgency of this situation feels overwhelming, especially being so far from home.
I’m holding onto hope that with your help, I can get this essential surgery as soon as possible and finally stop the pain, protect my health, and get back to living the study-abroad life I’ve worked so hard for.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading my story and for considering standing with me during this critical, time-sensitive moment.
With immense gratitude and urgency,
Jasmine
