Support Tiffany Gleason's Fight Against Chronic Lyme
For the past 12 years my sister, Tiffany, has battled Chronic Lyme Disease and is finally at a moment in her chronic illness journey where she needs significant financial help. Tiff has been ill since 2012 and spent many years struggling to get diagnosed by multiple doctors before she was finally given the result in 2017 of chronic Lyme disease with co-infections. Her treatment is ongoing as this is something that can’t be cured, only managed. Tiff now lives with a number of illnesses and syndromes as a result of the Lyme disease's impact on her body. In addition to Lyme, Babesiosis, and Bartonella, which are tick-borne infections, she also suffers from POTS, MCS, ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, MCAS, Lupus Anticoagulant Syndrome, mold toxicity, and Asthma, all of which severely impact her day-to-day living. These can flare separately and sometimes simultaneously. I have started this campaign to pay for Tiff's ongoing medical treatments so that she may get well and get back to living a healthy and prosperous life. The immediate need is to pay for a mold-free living space for Tiff by February 1st.
Daily Struggles
For the past ten years I have been Tiff's caretaker, and family members including myself have paid for the majority of her healthcare, little to none of which is covered by insurance due to the complex nature of these diseases and syndromes. While Tiff can do some things on her own, her illness takes a lot out of her. She doesn’t have the energy or capacity for most things the rest of us can accomplish day to day. Preparing a meal, doing laundry, or even taking a shower and getting ready for the day are exhausting for her. She has to make choices daily about which tasks she can complete, because it can never be all of them. Tiff had to quit her job last year. For sixteen years Tiffany has dedicated herself to the education of her students, helping them expand their knowledge, and not having the energy now to teach is incredibly disheartening for her. Not doing any type of work has also taken a mental toll on her. Tiff has always been a fighter, standing up for causes she believes in, standing up for others, and if you have been lucky enough to be her friend, you have likely witnessed her stand up for you. She's fighting this battle every day. Because she does not feel well or have the energy to do the things she used to do, Lyme disease is not only physically taxing but is very isolating. It's difficult to see my sister unable to do things she loves and to struggle each day. It's even more difficult to witness how her disease cuts her off from socializing with friends, family, and colleagues. Even with little to no energy, she never gives up! But Tiff's strong will alone will not be enough. She needs help.
Financial Impact
Since this fundraiser is, at its core, about money, I want to be clear about everything we have done up to this point: Tiffany has spent any and all of her savings, has dug into her retirement at the discouragement of all, maxed out numerous credit cards, and relied on family members to cover what averages to be about $25,000 dollars in medical costs, annually. I care for her everyday needs covering her housing, food, clothing, and contribute to her various medical costs, but she now needs to move to a 100% mold-free location per her doctor’s concerns for her failing health. Lastly, she has lost the main financial support from one family member due to having to cut ties with them. Mental health is as important in her healing as physical health and unfortunately boundaries had to be created. This fundraiser will first and foremost help her find somewhere healthy to stay for up to six months. Finding a living space in a mold free area costs $2500-$3000 a month. Tiff and I have spent a considerable amount of time researching this. This monthly housing charge may seem high, but since she can’t be in an old or moldy space, options are limited, and this is what the cost will be.
How Your Contribution Helps
In addition to the immediate need to secure a mold-free living space for Tiffany, your donations can support the following:
• Food: Tiffany must eat only organic foods due to her weakened immune system and history of Glyphosate toxicity which prevent her body from processing most food additives, including pesticides and other treatments used to grow food. This basically doubles the grocery bill from the average household.
• Supplements: Tiffany needs supplements to help her body replace or absorb any nutrients and kick-start her mitochondria. These cost $900 a month.
• Doctor visits: Tiffany must see special providers who can’t take insurance due to limitations put upon them for treatment recommendations. Doctor visits cost $500 a month.
• Modality tools: Laser treatment, PEMF and Biomat treatment, massage therapy, and infrared sauna all help Tiff with chronic pain. They are also costly, about $500-$800 a month. These treatments provide much needed relief for her.
Your Help Is a Blessing
• If you are willing to give something and you wish for it to be used for a specific purpose (housing, supplements, doctor visits, credit card debt, etc.) just make a note in the comments OR contact me or Tiff directly and let us know how you want her to spend it. I can’t thank you enough for your consideration in helping out. I know Tiffany will be extremely grateful for any financial support you are able to give her whether for her current housing need or ongoing treatment.
