Maternity Ward in Eritrea

We are currently working on the final construction of a maternity ward for expectant mothers in Kerkebet, Zoba Anseba, which is located in a remote part of Eritrea.
Maternity wards are essential to developing countries, as they provide women with medical needs during their pregnancy and a healthy, successful delivery for both mother and child. According to United Nations Development Programme “Eritrea once had the highest maternal mortality rate in the world, with about 1400 deaths per 100,000 births.” The rural nature and lack of efficient transportation from these remote areas to a nearby medical facility is one of the reasons of the high mortality rate. Today Eritrea is on a fast track to achieving the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goal for Maternal Health.
