Help Jason Marcum in His Fight Against Cancer

Hi, I’m Jason Marcum, age 51, and I’ve lived in Pine River, Minnesota, for over 22 years with my wife, Midori, whom I met while attending college in Japan back in 1995. We’ve been married for 26 years and have raised two amazing children, Misato (23) and Kyosuke (21).

I’m a proud co-owner of The U.G.L.Y. Cheesecake Company and Jr.’s No. 19 BBQ in Pine River/Baxter, which I’ve run for the past 12 years with my best friend and business partner, Ryan Nelson. Additionally, I own Grove Homes, Inc., a group home in Pequot Lakes serving adults with developmental disabilities, which I’ve operated for 15 years.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been dedicated to supporting my local community, contributing to many charitable causes and helping neighbors in need through our businesses.

In August 2024, I received the unexpected diagnosis of Stage 3 Colon Cancer. As a small business owner without personal medical insurance, this diagnosis has brought a financial burden I never anticipated. My medical bills are estimated to reach $100,000 by the end of treatment, with chemotherapy beginning soon.

I’ve always been healthy, so this cancer diagnosis came as a shock. I’m now reaching out for support from friends, family, and the community to help cover the mounting medical costs. Any contribution, no matter the size, will be greatly appreciated.
