Today, I find myself writing from a place I never imagined.

I am 37 years old, a physician, and in addition to caring for others, I am a wife and mother of two young children who are my greatest motivation: one is 4 years old and the other is 8. They are my reason to get up every day, even in the midle of uncertainty.

Recently, I received a diagnosis that completely changed my life: triple-negative invasive ductal carcinoma, an aggressive type of breast cancer that requires urgent and specialized treatment. As a physician, I understand what this diagnosis means, but as a mother… I feel it in a way I cannot fully put into words.

My treatment includes a medication called pembrolizumab, a therapy that could make a critical difference in my outcome. However, my insurance does not cover this medication, and at this moment, I do not have the financial resources to afford it.

I need 12 vials, each costing 307,000 Dominican pesos, which is approximately a total of $60,000 USD. This is an amount completely beyond my reach, but not beyond my hope.

Today, I find myself in a difficult position: after always being on the side of helping others, I am now the one asking for help. I do this for myself, but above all for my family. I want to watch them grow, be present for every stage of their lives, and continue to be their safe place, their guide, and their mother.

Any contribution, no matter how small it may seem, brings me one step closer to my treatment, my recovery, and the chance to keep living.

Hoy me toca escribir desde un lugar que nunca imaginé.

Tengo 37 años, soy médico y, además de cuidar a otros, soy esposa y madre de dos pequeños que son mi mayor motor: uno de 4 años y otro de 8. Ellos son mi razón para levantarme cada día, incluso en medio de la incertidumbre.

Hace poco recibí un diagnóstico que cambió mi vida por completo: carcinoma ductal infiltrante triple negativo, un tipo de cáncer de mama agresivo que requiere tratamiento urgente y específico. Como médico, entiendo lo que significa este diagnóstico, pero como madre… lo siento con una profundidad que no puedo describir.

Mi tratamiento incluye un medicamento llamado pembrolizumab, una terapia que puede marcar la diferencia en mi evolución. Sin embargo, mi seguro no cubre este medicamento y, en este momento, no cuento con los recursos económicos para costearlo.

Necesito 12 ampollas, cada una con un costo de 307,000 pesos dominicanos, y su equivalente en dólares que hace un total de 60 mil dólares. Es una cantidad que está completamente fuera de mi alcance, pero no fuera de mi esperanza.

Hoy me encuentro en una posición difícil: siendo quien siempre ha estado del lado de ayudar, ahora me toca pedir ayuda. Lo hago por mí, pero sobre todo por mis hijos. Quiero verlos crecer, acompañarlos en cada etapa de sus vidas, seguir siendo su refugio, su guía y su mamá presente.

Cualquier aporte, por pequeño que parezca, es un paso más hacia mi tratamiento, hacia mi recuperación y hacia la posibilidad de seguir viviendo.
