Aerospace Maintenance Competition

Hi, we are the Skills Team for the Aviation Technology program at West Los Angeles College. For the past year, the team has been practicing and training to compete at the Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC), which will be held this year in Atlanta, Georgia. Every year in the past the team has received support and funding from the school and/or outside companies. On February 19th of this year, we found out that the school would not be providing us with any financial support due to political obstacles put in place by California lawmakers. We have yet to find any support and are desperately trying to gather the funds needed to attend the event for the week of April 16-21. We have created this page to reach out to our community, family, and friends for support.

The competition consists of more than 70 teams nationwide competing against each other in time-based events relating to aviation maintenance. The teams are not only from other schools but also major airlines, military, and foreign teams. West Los Angeles College has a reputation for placing 4th or above in the school division, and this last year we placed 2nd in the school division and 7th place overall. By attending AMC, it will provide us with the opportunity to network with major airlines and companies who attend the competition to recruit the best and brightest each school has to offer. In the past, many students have secured jobs with Boeing, United Airlines, FedEx, etc. Last year's team had 4 members get hired by United Airlines and 1 team member get hired by FedEx Airlines. This year's team is diverse, having Latin American and African American members 2 of whom are women. We face obstacles getting jobs in the aviation field and having this opportunity can open doors we would have a difficult time trying to get through. Where your contribution will be going:

-7 round-trip tickets to fly from California to Georgia

-6 days of car rental to get from lodging to event location

-5 nights of lodging in either a hotel or Airbnb

-Meals for the entire team

-Uniforms for the entire team
