AEDs for Aidan - In Memory of Aidan Miller

Aidan Miller collapsed and died at age 16 from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) caused by an unknown cardiac arrhythmia, while fishing with his best friends on July 22, 2019. He had no signs or symptoms and never had any previous heart or health issues. Aidan was an excellent student at Plainview Elgin Millville High School (MN) and had just finished his sophomore year in high school. He was active in many different organizations in high school and was an offensive/defensive lineman on the football team. He loved living on a dairy farm and worked side by side with his dad daily. He especially loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In memory of Aidan, our family is doing this fundraiser to help raise money needed to purchase more portable Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for Southeastern MN area school athletic teams. Many schools do not have enough portable AEDs to cover all teams that have outdoor venues, such as softball, baseball, golf and track teams. We recently did a local fundraiser for PEM HS and raised enough money to purchase 6 AEDs!
Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in young athletes, accounting for 75% of all athlete related deaths and kills one teenage athlete EVERY 3 DAYS! A growing number of studies suggest many COVID-19 survivors experience some type of heart damage, even if they didn’t have an underlying heart condition, or weren’t sick enough to be hospitalized. AEDs are critical to saving lives in cases of sudden cardiac arrest. AEDs can TRIPLE the chance of survival from SCA if used promptly along with CPR! Each portable AED unit costs around $1500. Whatever funds are raised will go towards purchasing these units for SE MN area schools.
We miss Aidan every single day. It is our family’s mission to raise awareness about sudden cardiac death in the young and want to do whatever we can to keep this from happening to another family. Thank you for your support!
