Hjælp kvinde/Support woman

Støt kvinde efter drabsforsøg/Support woman after attempted murder (English version below)

Support woman after attempted murder

Financial help needed for legal representation for victim of domestic violence.

In January 2017 my Danish friend was subjected to a murder attempt in her own home in Spain. The assailant was her Spanish former partner whom she had lived with in Spain. The forensic medical examination performed on my friend showed signs of gross violence and abuse that could have caused her death.

In connection with the upcoming trial in Spain I am seeking financial help for my friend so she can get proper legal assistance from an experienced lawyer in this field. She has a lawyer through the established legal system in Spain, but the lawyer is not fit for this task. Neither my friend nor her family can afford a private lawyer.

My friend is trapped in the Spanish judicial system which is not geared to these kinds of cases. Women in similar situations tell how they have been criminalized by many and unpleasant interrogations, where their reports have been doubted, despite forensic evidence. Many women have experienced that the judicial system has not protected them, but, on the contrary, have left them feel criminalized.

My friend was almost killed when her Spanish partner attacked her in their home. Her life was saved by a neighbor who heard her screaming for help. The police were immediately called but when they met her partner in the street and inquired about the incident, he told them nothing had happened. The police officers decided to take his word for it and left the scene. Afterwards my friend had to go to the police station and report the assault. Unfortunately, she found out that her partner had already been convicted of domestic violence in an earlier relationship. He declares himself innocent and has a good private lawyer, hired through his family.

This year alone 44 women have been killed by their partner in Spain. In total, there have been 528,272 reports of domestic violence. Since 2003, 913 women have lost their lives in connection with domestic violence. The patriarchal culture in Spain makes it difficult for women to be heard, and gender equality is still far from reality.
