Adventures in Social Work Research!
Hello!
I’m Dr. Gina Griffin. I am a social worker, and I am the creator of Adventures in Social Work Research (AISWR). Many people believe that social workers only work with children. But we’re trained to do that, and lots more. Some of us are also passionate about conducting research.
That last part is my favorite part, although I’ve never really been able to do this. I’ve spent my career working with people as a therapist. In that role, it’s difficult to convince your employer to give you time away from your regular duties, and to give you the funds to brush up on the research skills that you haven’t used since you graduated.
Furthermore, there's research that shows that including providers who work directly with patients in the research process improves everything, from patient care, to better public policies.
When I was working on my doctorate, I created AISWR as a project that will help direct care social workers to develop the skills necessary to become researchers. AISWR will provide an online platform and Learning Management System that will help social workers to grow those skills, largely for free.
Presently, the members of AISWR have moved this initiative as far as we can. I have invested my own skills and finances to start the website. But we need your help to grow. Your generous gifts would have a huge impact. Donations totalling $800 would help with the remaining start-up costs; $10,000 would allow us to hire freelance staff; $50,000 would fund operations for the rest of the year.
Please give from your heart. Your contribution will help us to provide quality research education, and to help our communities. And everybody Wins.
