Adventure Dog Instagram
2020 has been one hell of a year. It seems that the hits keep on coming, and for our adventure dog family, we are having a tough time. In July, I had to make the impossible decision to put down my 6 year old corgi, Marley, due to a tumor in his heart that was quickly taking his life. To say that it was sudden and unexpected is to skim the surface of all of the emotions I have felt. He was a part of my family, regularly enjoyed paddleboarding with me, going to corgi beach day, and had a hell of a smile. He was my first furbaby since graduating from PT school. He made every move with me from AZ to TX to CA and was the original "Adventure Dog." Losing him cut a hole in my heart.
My sweet girl, Chimi, helped to keep me going through that time. In September this year, I decided that I wanted to get Chimi a companion because she seemed so sad not having Marley to pal around with. The house was way too quiet. That's when I found Gordy. He was an instant fit into the family, though Chimi had to show him that she's really the boss.
On Wednesday this week (11/11/2020), Gordy started showing signs of seizure activity and had to be taken to the emergency vet. On the way there, Gordy had multiple grand mal seizures. He has been in the veterinary hospital since then, with fluctuations in his neurologic status and requiring specialty care from nephrology, neurology and a general practitioner veterinarian. When I got home from dropping him off, I realized that Gordy had gotten into Chimi's allergy medications. The vets think his condition started as a response to medication toxicity and are hopeful that with the right treatment, he can make a recovery and be able to walk and move on his own again, but none of them have seen a case like his before. They are doing workup for underlying conditions, but think that most likely his body is having a hard time processing the toxicity from the medication, has developed a pneumonia from aspirating on vomit during his seizures, and now needs to have dialysis to save his organs from failing. Gordy is my family, and I want to do all that I can to give him a fighting chance to get back to our adventures together.
Anything you can contribute will help - the vets are projecting up to $16k in expenses for the care that he requires. All money raised will be used to pay directly for these expenses, and the sooner I can receive the funds, the better, to help me also be able to continue to pay for my rent and general living expenses.
