My Name Yves Nyom usually called Boby, the youngest son of a family of 5. My oldest sister has been diagnosed of advanced breast cancer metastasis. She is 53 years old living in Cameroon and went last year to get treatments in India. She went back home 6 months later to spend time with her family as the chemotherapy she underwent worked on her. Between the time spent home and her next post chemotherapy routine check, some of the medication weren’t available for her to receive as they weren’t covered by the insurance and were way more expensive. She decided not to inform us and kept it for herself thinking of using alternative medicine (natural medicine) with the hope of controlling the disease. Unfortunately, it didn’t help much but what I can say, she was strong enough to stay focused and pray with the hope of getting another solution that will help her to keep going and stay positive. 7 months has passed, no update of going back for the routine check. We had to step up and ask her to tell what’s going on and we went to find out that she is still dealing with the insurance and they had not even refunded them 1/4 of the expenses from last year and still fighting for it. We had to step up on our game and find anything we can to do to make her leave. We put her on the flight on march 17th 2023 to go for her routine to make sure that the disease has not drastically evolved. Few days later after her arrival in New Delhi, India, she went to the hospital for the whole check up. I was supposed to fly March 30th to Cameroon to see her, my mom and my other sisters but unfortunately it was too long for her to stay knowing the fact that this disease doesn’t sit there and wait for you. I had to cancel my trip to Cameroon and be with her in India as she went alone. She didn’t want anybody to come and husband couldn’t go as he needs to take care of her two children. I’m flying out tomorrow March 27 from Los Angeles to London and connect from London to New Delhi. March 23rd the Pet scan report reveals to undergo another round of Chemotherapy sessions but need to be determined by the oncologist. Beside that, she needs to undergo a surgery for a fracture neck of femur of the left hip due the spread of the disease to her bone. This unexpected surgery is an addition of the cost and is required to be done before any chemotherapy treatments. The fact that a radiotherapy and chemotherapy are needed, the intervention needs to be done to avoid my sister to be paralyzed and not being able to walk for the rest of her life if she fights the disease. I am so stressed, hoping to have the strength to be next to her and hold my emotion. I’m very sensitive person and adding stress with work is not easy. I’m a believer, a fighter so my sister. We will all go through this together. We all have stories to share but I decided to share my sister story for people out there suffering, struggling with the shame to seek for help. It could be you, me or someone else, Any donation will be helpful and sincerely appreciated.
