Advanced Bowel Cancer at 33yrs old

I’m Darren’s Mum Velda, January 2024 we received the devastating news that Darren has Advanced Bowel cancer. With very little symptoms , it’s was a complete shock/whirlwind for Darren. He had experienced two weeks of constipation and some tummy pain but as the rest of us, thought he had eaten too much over Christmas. When he started vomiting he went to see an out of hours gp , before he new it he was in hospital being told he had a large tumour in his large Bowel and 3 deposits on his peritoneal lining. Darren underwent emergency surgery to have a ileostomy, this was to release the pressure within his bowel. Darren has dealt with his ileostomy like a trooper, didn’t even seem to phase him, which made me so proud.

Darren then had to undergo many scans, PET scans, MRIs and Colonoscopy.

Unfortunately the 4/5 wks that had passed the cancer had spread to his liver & Rectum. This was bad news for us all, we all hoped he may have been able to get surgery in Basingstoke. Basingstoke offer HIPEC & Sugar Baker treatment, but only if the cancer is contained I believe.

On 1st March Darren starting his chemo, he is going to get 4 rounds and then reassess.

The Drs have told us that his is Palliative and has come as a huge blow. We don’t have a definitive time line. But with your help we are hoping to try some different options.

Darren is 33yrs old , loves cars, motorbikes, well actually anything with wheels. He always wanted to be a mechanic, but eventually ended up driving forklifts. He has a get up & have fun character especially around his good friends.

You may ask why I’m doing this, well unfortunately they didn’t get round to getting life insurance yet. Darren isn’t able to work at the minute with all the hospital trips and extreme fatigue makes it unsafe for him.

I would like to take some stress away from them to raise funds for treatment, making memories and unfortunately when the time comes take away that stress also.

Any help is very much appreciated and all we can do is he hope the chemo keeps his cancer at bay and buys us more precious time with him. Xxx
